What differentiates a wet sauna from a dry sauna?
What differentiates a wet sauna from a dry sauna?
They are interchangeable. Due to the dry heat and lack of humidity, the hot sauna is thought of as a dry sauna when you enter it before any water is sprinkled on the rocks. It becomes a wet sauna the moment steam is produced by pouring water on the rocks creating a humid environment.
How should I care for my outdoor sauna’s exterior?
How should I care for my outdoor sauna’s exterior?
Our outdoor saunas are made for the rigors of outdoors and ok to be in all elements including very cold, windy, humid, and hot climates. If left untreated, the wood will eventually turn a gray/silver color from the sun but this will not affect the function of the sauna in any way. If you want to preserve the sauna’s deep, natural color, you should use a clear UV-inhibited stain on the exterior to protect it from the damaging effects of rain and sunlight. Your neighborhood painter might offer assistance with a suitable product. Don’t ever treat the sauna room's interior.
What sort of site preparation is required for my outdoor barrel or cabin sauna?
What sort of site preparation is required for my outdoor barrel or cabin sauna?
Although Salus Saunas can be utilized in most settings, it is imperative that the surface upon which the sauna is supported be firm and level (a tiny slope for rain run-off is OK). Wood decks, concrete patios, paver stones, pressed gravel, etc. are examples of appropriate surfaces. Do NOT place your barrel or cabin saunas cradles directly on the grass/ground. Please ask a sales representative for assistance with foundation options if unsure.
Which kind of electricity service is necessary?
Which kind of electricity service is necessary?
Traditional sauna heaters require 240 volt and a 30, 40 or 50 amp breaker, and need to be hardwired by a licensed electrician. Infrared saunas required 120 volt with a 15 amp or 20 amp dedicated circuit depending upon the size.
What kind of routine maintenance does my sauna require?
What kind of routine maintenance does my sauna require?
From a maintenance perspective, relatively little work is needed. Occasionally cleaning the sauna’s floor or benches with a water and baking soda solution is recommended. If sweat stains get too bad you can lightly use sandpaper to get rid of them. Not often, but every once in a while for a barrel sauna, you may need to tighten or loosen the bands occasionally due to how much the environment causes the wood to shrink or expand.
What degree of heat is ideal for a sauna?

It really depends upon your preference. Hotter doesn’t necessarily mean better, some people like it cooler and some people like it extremely hot. It boils down to choice and preference.
How hot do your traditional heaters get?

This will depend on the heater model. The Harvia KIP heaters get up to a max temp of 190 degrees. The Virta heaters will get to a max temp of 190 and sometimes closer to 200 in the right environment. The Huum heaters can get all the way up to 220 degrees!
What is the NM length for each infrared heating panel, near, mid and far,in the full spectrum saunas?
What is the NM length for each infrared heating panel, near, mid and far,in the full spectrum saunas?
Our Infrared saunas operate between approximately 1 micron (the NEAR Infrared part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum) to 12 microns (the FAR Infrared part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum) capturing all three wavelengths. NEAR Infrared falls between .76 - 1.5 microns, MID Infrared falls between 1.5 - 5.6 microns, and FAR Infrared is greater than the 6 microns.
Near, mid, and far all have specific optimal wavelengths for delivery to the human body. Far is 9.4, Mid is 6.7 microns, and Near is 880 nano meters. Outside of that, the wavelengths simply aren't able to be absorbed by the human body. How much of your IR is delivered at these wave lengths?

The optimal absorption rate for the human body is 9.4 microns. But because of the fluctuation in electricity, it is not possible to only get exactly 9.4 microns. Therefore, the microns are typically listed in a range, that being 1 micron (the NEAR Infrared part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum) to 12 microns (the FAR Infrared part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum) capturing all three wavelengths.

How do infrared saunas work and why are they good for you?
How do infrared saunas work and why are they good for you?
When we expose our bodies to infrared light, our bodies' metabolic process accelerates. As the body heats up to a slight fever of 99.0 degrees, the temperature at which our bodies begin to fight infection, we begin to sweat, resulting in a passive cardiovascular workout as the body attempts to cool itself naturally. The heart will have to work harder to help cool the skin's surface, and you will begin to breathe more heavily as your body requires you to oxygenate the blood pumped at a higher rate throughout your body. Sweating is an essential factor. Toxins that the body cannot ordinarily pass through the kidneys or liver are present in 20% of all perspiration produced during an infrared sauna session. In contrast, only 3% of your sweat in a traditional or steam sauna is toxins removed from the body.
Why do steam and dry heat saunas not remove as many toxins from the body as infrared saunas?
Why do steam and dry heat saunas not remove as many toxins from the body as infrared saunas?
Steam and dry saunas operate on a principle known as convention. It heats the air first, then the body, just like an oven. An infrared sauna operates on the radiant heat theory. The infrared rays penetrate the muscle tissue removing toxins directly from deep within the muscle and the subcutaneous layer of fat via our skin. When exposed to infrared light, cancer cells with a heat shock protein of 70 or less perish. Residual or latent viruses, germs, and toxins from chemotherapy, lead, mercury, uranium, pesticides, drug misuse, nicotine, and alcohol are released via the skin, relieving the body of the task of keeping these dangerous toxins away from essential organs.

What are the health dangers of infrared saunas?
What are the health dangers of infrared saunas?
Sauna use poses no health risks unless you have a blood clotting condition, are in the advanced stages of lupus, multiple sclerosis, or another nervous system disease that has damaged the body's natural ability to cool itself. You can never overdose on infrared light since your body can only absorb enough for each cell before it passes harmlessly out of the body. You want to make sure you are drinking enough if you are sweating a lot so that dehydration doesn’t occur.

What separates infrared saunas from traditional saunas?
What separates infrared saunas from traditional saunas?
Infrared saunas and traditional saunas both use heat to promote relaxation and other health benefits. However, they do so in different ways. Infrared saunas use infrared light to heat the body directly. This light penetrates the skin and warms the tissues beneath, which can help to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain. Infrared saunas operate at a lower temperature than traditional saunas. Traditional saunas heat the air, which then heats the body. The option of adding water to the rocks creates humidity in the traditional sauna.
